VCC PIDP 3100 – Trends in adult education

The one trend I see in in adult education is the use of computers, visual media, and AI-delivered instruction. Online learning is becoming increasingly viable for adult learners, as it supports their preference for autonomy and flexible scheduling.

Adults often prefer to decide when to start and stop their learning. This aligns well with the concept of self-directed learning, which is particularly relevant in online environments. I believe that in the coming years, much of instruction will transition to virtual formats.

AI-generated avatars may eventually guide learners through lessons or courses tailored to their individual learning algorithms. While developing such personalized systems is still a challenge current algorithm are not yet capable of full individual customization, we can begin to prepare by designing adaptable course structures. Generic algorithm can be used to in adult learning These could include scripted lessons that allow learners to set personal goals, test their progress, develop new skills, and evaluate their learning outcomes.

Implementing this kind of online learning is a significant undertaking, but with the right preparation, financial input and information collaboration it is achievable.
