VCC PIDP 3100 – Learning partner

We set a time and contacted learning partner Curtis Shaw on 27 of April. We had an extensive conversation about the course and the trends in each other’s career, the experiences that we’ve had throughout our career and where we are today.

A Recreational Vehicle maintenance specialist by trade Curtis had found no formal red seal in the subject which created an opportunity.  RV maintenance is not taught in colleges around BC so Curtis found a college was offered a position, where he could develop this course. Curtis had found the opportunity and a gap in the market.

Curtis shared that a foundation courses or foundation training are not on offer for his selected career. This was a somewhat of a trigger to me because I found myself in that same situation, although there are many managerial and supervisor courses on offer none focus specifically on my present role.

Curtis enjoyed the conversation we had about shipping and the shipping industry, and I explained to him the growing gap between managing and the foundational knowledge base in the shipping industry, especially in the BC ports area.

We both found that having and spending time to complete assignments was extremely difficult. As adults, we have lots of other family commitments, and we’re commitments going on. Combined with setting up websites and blogs the biggest challenge of this course for both of us is time management.
